Aleksandar Hemon


Aleksandar Hemon (born September 9, 1964) is a Bosnian-American fiction writer. He is the winner of a MacArthur Foundation and Guggenheim grants. He has written five acclaimed books: The Book of My Lives (non-fiction, 2013); Love and Obstacles: Stories (2009), The Lazarus Project: A Novel (2008), Nowhere Man (2002), also a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; and The Question of Bruno: Stories (2000). He frequently publishes in The New Yorker and has also written for Esquire, The Paris Review, the Op-Ed page of The New York Times, and for the Sarajevo magazine BH Dani. He left Sarajevo in 1992 and has lived in Chicago since.
